When I was pregnant, I spent a lot of time researching bottle feeding essentials and breastfeeding essentials.
What I didn’t realize was that even though I planned to breastfeed, I would end up using bottles regularly too.
I primarily breastfed my son, but we eventually added an evening bottle before bedtime, and bottles were incredibly helpful whenever my mom watched him. I also pumped occasionally, which meant I needed a few bottle-feeding supplies even though I wasn’t exclusively bottle feeding.
Whether you’re formula feeding, pumping, combo feeding, or simply want someone else to be able to help with feedings, having the right bottle feeding essentials can make life much easier.
These are the bottle feeding essentials that actually helped me during those exhausting newborn months.
The Bottle Feeding Essentials That Helped Me Most
Newborns eat around the clock.
The easier you can make feeding sessions, the more energy you’ll have for everything else.
I quickly learned that bottle feeding wasn’t just about having bottles.
It was about having clean bottles ready, a comfortable place to feed, a way to store milk, and a simple system that worked even when I was exhausted.
Here are the bottle feeding essentials I used most.
Dr. Brown’s Bottles
Dr. Brown’s bottles quickly became one of my favorites.
They were easy to clean, easy for my baby to take, and consistently worked well for us.
Like many parents, I discovered that babies can be surprisingly opinionated about bottles, so it can take a little trial and error to find the right fit.
Once we found bottles my son liked, I stuck with them.

Philips Avent Bottles
We also had great luck with Philips Avent bottles.
These became another regular part of our rotation and worked well whether I was pumping or offering an occasional formula bottle.
Having more than one bottle option was helpful in the early months while we figured out what worked best.

Every baby is different, so don’t be surprised if it takes trying a couple bottle brands before you find one your baby prefers.
Extra Bottles
One mistake I almost made was not buying enough bottles.
The more bottles we had available, the less often I found myself washing them throughout the day.
Instead of cleaning bottles after every single feeding, I could wash them in larger batches.
That made life much easier during those busy newborn weeks.
Bottle Drying Rack
A bottle drying rack doesn’t sound exciting, but I used ours every day.
Between bottles, nipples, pump parts, bottle collars, and storage containers, there always seemed to be something drying.
Having a dedicated place for everything helped keep the kitchen counters organized and made it easier to find what I needed.

Bottle Brush
A good bottle brush is one of those simple products that gets used constantly.
I used mine multiple times every day.
Having the right brush made cleaning bottles faster, easier, and much less frustrating.

Bottle Sterilizer
We loved having a bottle sterilizer during the newborn stage.
While it’s not something every family uses forever, it made those early months much simpler.
Between bottles and pump parts, I felt like I was constantly washing feeding supplies.

Formula Maker
Even though I primarily breastfed, there were times when formula was incredibly helpful.

Instead of measuring formula, heating water, mixing everything together, and checking the temperature, I could simply press a button and have a bottle ready within seconds.

Bottle Warmer
My son was surprisingly particular about bottle temperature.
If a bottle cooled off while we were changing a diaper or trying to settle him, he often wouldn’t drink it until it was warmed again.
Having a bottle warmer nearby made feeding sessions much smoother and eliminated a lot of frustration.

Nursing Pillow
Even though the name says “nursing pillow,” this was one of my favorite bottle-feeding products too.
Whether I was breastfeeding or giving a bottle, having extra support under my arms made a huge difference.
It helped support my back, shoulders, and wrists during longer feeding sessions.

Burp Cloths
Bottle-fed babies still spit up.
A lot.
I kept burp cloths everywhere.
Beside the couch, next to the bed, in the diaper bag, and anywhere else we regularly fed.
They quickly became one of the most-used baby items in our house.

A Feeding Station
One of the best things I did was create dedicated feeding stations around the house.
Instead of constantly getting up to find burp cloths, bottles, water, snacks, or nursing pads, I kept everything together in baskets near the places I fed most often.
Having supplies within arm’s reach made every feeding session easier.

Milk Storage Bags
Because I occasionally pumped, milk storage bags became another essential.
Having them ready made it easy to store extra milk and gradually build a small freezer stash.
Keeping a box nearby meant I was always prepared whenever I pumped more than expected.

A few things I learned along the way:
- Buying too few bottles
- Waiting until baby is hungry to prepare bottles
- Not having a drying rack
- Washing bottles one at a time all day long
- Forgetting to keep feeding supplies in multiple rooms
- Not having enough burp cloths nearby
Little systems make a big difference during the newborn stage.
